Sindh Conducts First Scientific Post-Mortem of Pet Cat
The Sindh Animal Disease Surveillance Center (SADSC) has conducted the first scientific post-mortem of a pet cat in the province, marking a major development in veterinary diagnostics and animal disease surveillance.
The post-mortem was carried out on Leonidas, a two-month-old Persian cat. Experts found fluid in the lungs, signs of an enlarged liver, blood accumulation in the abdomen, and evidence of an immune response.
According to the veterinary team, the cat died due to an incompatible blood transfusion.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah congratulated officials and experts of the Livestock Department on the successful procedure. He termed the development a breakthrough for veterinary medicine in the province.
The chief minister said the government is strengthening the veterinary sector through science, innovation, and modern institutional systems. He added that SADSC is playing an important role in disease surveillance, timely diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment.
He said modern veterinary diagnostic centers will also help improve animal welfare and protect public health.
Sindh Livestock Minister Muhammad Ali Malkani said the province is moving toward a leading position in veterinary diagnostics and animal disease surveillance. He added that veterinary laboratories and scientific capabilities are being expanded in line with international standards.
The Livestock Secretary informed the chief minister that the post-mortem demonstrated Sindh’s ability to provide modern and evidence-based veterinary services.
Kazim Jatoi said strengthening veterinary institutions would further improve animal health services across the province.
Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah also praised the veterinary team, saying its professional expertise and commitment made the achievement possible. He added that efforts are continuing to bring animal health services in Sindh in line with international standards.
