Sindh University VCs Seek Extensions After Ex-CM’s Daughter’s Controversy

Vice chancellors of several public universities in Sindh have reportedly started seeking extensions after controversy surrounding the extension granted to the daughter of former Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah.
Prof. Dr. Nusrat Shah, Vice Chancellor of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University Larkana, is the former chief minister’s daughter. Her first four-year tenure is scheduled to end on January 1, 2027.
According to sources, a summary seeking her extension reached the Sindh chief minister, with reports that approval was granted shortly before the completion of her tenure. The timing of the reported extension has sparked discussion among other university heads whose terms are also nearing completion.
The issue has now emerged as a fresh challenge for the Sindh chief minister, who serves as the controlling authority for public universities in the province.
The government recently approved an extension for Jinnah Sindh Medical University Vice Chancellor Dr. Amjad Siraj Memon, while extension summaries for Dr. Khalid Iraqi and Dr. Farooq Hassan were reportedly rejected.
Meanwhile, the tenures of several other VCs are due to expire in the coming months.
These include Dr. Ikramuddin Aijaz of Liaquat University, Dr. Zahid Hussain Khand of Aror University, Dr. Arbela Bhutto of Shaheed Allah Buksh University, Dr. Asif Sheikh of IBA Sukkur and Dr. Taha Hussain of Mehran University.
The terms of Tehmina Nungraj of Nusrat Bhutto Women University and Dr. Samreen Hussain of Dawood Engineering University are also set to expire soon.
