Pakistan won a Silver Award at the Asian Science Camp (ASC) 2026, Hong Kong. Pariwash Hakim from the Pakistani team was awarded the silver award.
The Asian Science Camp is an annual event with 48 participating nations, each country sends its official team, with ASC-26 receiving 350+ young science students as participants.
The event is an excellent opportunity for collegiate and non-collegiate students. Participants directly interact with eminent scientists, Nobel laureates, and compete in a research proposal-based poster competition. This melting pot of ideas, experts, and passion makes ASC an ideal event for networking and collaboration.
The Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Science and Technology, is committed to the popularization of science across Pakistan. PSF selects 5 students based on transparency and merit across the country annually for the Asian Science Camp; this includes equal opportunity for male and female aspirants.
This year’s team included students with backgrounds from all provinces. This included Danish Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; Abdullah Imtiaz, Islamabad; Baseer Khan, Balochistan; Mahnoor Amjad, Punjab; and Pariwash Hakim, Sindh.
Out of 54 projects, Pariwash’s was one of 12 that were shortlisted as finalists. The pitching was judged by a distinguished 13-member panel, including Nobel laureates, university faculty, and industry experts, on the criteria of idea, presentation, time duration, visualization, and potential impact.
This year’s ASC took place at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), Hong Kong, often considered one of the most prestigious universities in the world. PSF ensured a smooth experience for the national delegation by providing funding for the selection and participation of the team.
The team was selected through a rigorous process involving multiple tiers of evaluation. Around half a year before the camp, PSF disseminates an advertisement calling all eligible participants to apply. It then shortlists these students and invites them for a written test in 6 major cities across Pakistan.
The final candidates are invited to the PSF headquarters in Islamabad for an in-person interview in front of a selection committee. The final team is chosen based on the aggregate scores in the test and interview. The team was led by Syeda Rehana Batool, Director Science Popularization, Pakistan Science Foundation.
The Pakistani team and team leader appreciated the support of the Pakistan Science Foundation, Ministry of Science and Technology, Honorable Federal Minister for Science and Technology Khalid Hussain Magsi, and Honorable Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif for providing support for the Pakistani team.
