The National Assembly Standing Committee on Health held a meeting on Thursday and discussed excessive medical college fees, vacant seats and the performance of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).
Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal made it clear that medical colleges cannot increase fees at will. He said 61 medical colleges had applied for fee increases, but only 35 institutions that met the required standards were allowed to do so.
Committee Chairman Mahesh Kumar Malani and other members raised concerns over high fees charged by medical colleges, vacant seats and PMDC’s performance.
PMDC President told the committee that notices had already been issued to institutions charging excessive fees. He also said seats in public medical colleges had been increased.
During the meeting, the Nursing Council informed members that the inspection and complaint system for nursing colleges was now being fully digitised.
