The Punjab government has decided to assign the task of collecting cleanliness fees under the Suthra Punjab program to the Excise Department.
Sources said the provincial cabinet has formally approved the recovery of the fee, which is commonly referred to as the garbage tax.
The proposal to hand over the collection responsibility to the Excise Department was submitted by the Secretary Local Government.
After approving the proposal, the Punjab cabinet decided that the Excise Department will now collect the cleanliness fee.
Officials said the move aims to make fee recovery under the sanitation program more effective and organized.
Further details about the collection mechanism are expected to emerge after the Excise Department takes charge of the process.
