Xiaomi has launched the Pad 9 and Pad 9 Pro in China, bringing high-refresh-rate displays, Snapdragon processors and large batteries to its latest tablet lineup. The two models arrive shortly after the company introduced the larger Pad 9 Pro Max.
Unlike the Pad 9 Pro Max, however, neither new tablet uses Xiaomi’s XRING O3 chipset. Instead, Xiaomi has equipped the Pad 9 Pro with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, while the standard Pad 9 uses the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4.
Display and Design
Both tablets feature 3.2K LCDs with a 3200 x 2136 resolution, a 3:2 aspect ratio and a 144Hz refresh rate. The panels support 12-bit color depth, DCI-P3 coverage, HDR10, HDR Vivid and Dolby Vision.
Xiaomi has also included several eye-comfort features on both models. These include Circadian Friendly, Flicker-Free, and hardware-level low-blue-light certifications. 
The displays also support wet-touch input, allowing them to respond to touch even when the user’s hands are damp.
The main difference is screen size. The Pad 9 has an 11.2-inch display, while the Pad 9 Pro features a larger 12.5-inch panel. The Pro model also reaches a peak brightness of 1,000 nits, compared with 800 nits on the standard Pad 9.
Both tablets support Xiaomi’s magnetic pen and a PC-style floating keyboard. The pen is sold separately rather than included in the box.
The Pro is also slightly heavier and thicker. It weighs 580 grams and measures 5.8mm thick, while the Pad 9 weighs 485 grams and is 5.75mm thick. Xiaomi also offers soft-light display versions of both tablets, which add a few grams to their weight.
Performance and Software
The Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 platform. The octa-core processor is built on a 3nm process and reaches clock speeds of up to 3.8GHz. It is paired with an Adreno GPU.
The standard Pad 9 uses the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. Xiaomi previously used the same processor in the Pad 8, meaning the new standard model does not represent a major jump in raw processing performance.
Both tablets come with software aimed at productivity and content creation. WPS for Pad is included for office tasks, while CapCut Pro is available for video editing.
For storage and memory, the Pad 9 Pro offers up to 16GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.1 storage. The Pad 9 reaches 12GB of RAM, with the same 256GB storage ceiling.
Both models start with an 8GB RAM and 128GB storage configuration.
Cameras
The Pad 9 Pro has a 50MP main camera capable of recording 4K video. It also features a 32MP front camera for video calls.
The Pad 9 uses a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera. Both cameras are limited to 1080p video recording.
The standard model retains most of the same shooting modes, although it misses some of the Pro’s additional features, including the higher-resolution feed used by the teleprompter mode.
Battery and Charging
The Pad 9 Pro packs an 11,000mAh battery. It supports 67W wired charging and 22.5W reverse charging.
The standard Pad 9 has a 9,720mAh battery and supports 45W charging.
Pricing
The Xiaomi Pad 9 starts at around $450 for the 8GB+128GB version. The 8GB+256GB model costs $495, while the 8GB+256GB soft-light version costs $525. The highest-end 12GB+256GB configuration is priced at $570
The Pad 9 is available in Silver, Spruce Green, Black, and Ice Peach Pink.
The Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro starts at around $570 for the 8GB+128GB model. The 8GB+256GB version costs $615, while the 12GB+256GB model is priced at $690.
The 12GB+256GB soft-light version costs $720. The range-topping 16GB+256GB model costs 4,999 yuan, or around $750.
The Pad 9 Pro comes in Silver, Spruce Green, and Black.
Note that these are all China prices, and international pricing is likely to be higher. Xiaomi has not confirmed a global launch yet, but these tablets usually arrive in the international market a few months later.
