Islamabad Imposes Two-Month Ban on Swimming in Dams, Rivers and Nullahs
The Islamabad Capital Territory Administration has imposed a two-month ban on swimming in Rawal Dam, Simly Dam, Swan River and all nullahs across the federal capital due to risks associated with rains and flooding.
The ban has been enforced under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and came into effect immediately. The order was issued by Additional District Magistrate Islamabad Dr Anam Fatima on September 8, 2026.
Swimming has also been prohibited in Korang Nullah, Angori Road Nullah, Chattar Park Nullah, Shahdara and Sunday-Mar Dam, along with other streams and water channels within Islamabad Capital Territory.
According to the order, swimming in these locations poses a serious threat to human life, while incidents linked to such activities have already been reported. The administration said immediate preventive measures were necessary to protect residents and visitors.
The ICT Administration advised citizens to strictly comply with the restriction and avoid entering dams, rivers and nullahs during the ban. Action may be taken against violators under the relevant provisions of law.
