New Borewell Fees Introduced in Rawalpindi Cantonment Areas

Residents in Rawalpindi Cantonment Board areas who installed borewells to address water shortages now face regularization charges of Rs. 55,400 for residential borewells and Rs. 200,000 for commercial ones.

According to sources, residential and commercial consumers receive water every other day, amounting to supplies for only 15 days a month, despite paying their full monthly bills.

Frustrated by the limited water supply, residents installed borewells at their own expense to meet their daily needs.

However, under Resolution No. 23 of a Cantonment Board meeting, the board imposed charges for groundwater extraction from underground reserves. Notices issued to residents state that they are using groundwater illegally and must regularize their borewells.

Residents have been given seven days to pay the charges. Those who fail to comply could face borewell removal and legal action.
