Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town Signs Sister-Town Agreement With Turkish Municipalities

The Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town Municipal Corporation (TMC) has signed a “sister-town agreement” with the municipalities of Inebolu and Araç in Türkiye’s Kastamonu province to strengthen municipal cooperation and promote the exchange of expertise in urban development.

Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town Chairman Dr. Fawad Ahmed and Dr. Kamal Aydin, adviser to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and president of the Ibn Sina Institute Türkiye, signed the agreement at a ceremony attended by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) opposition leader Advocate Saifuddin, Jamaat-i-Islami East district chief Naeem Akhtar, elected representatives and municipal officials.

Under the agreement, the three municipalities will cooperate in urban development, city planning, smart-city initiatives, modern municipal services and technology. They will also exchange expertise and experiences in municipal governance and development.

The partnership will allow the municipalities to learn from one another’s development models and successful practices, according to a statement.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr. Aydin said the agreement could help create a brighter future for Gulshan-i-Iqbal by enabling the town to benefit from Türkiye’s experience in urban development and municipal services.

Dr. Fawad said Turkish municipalities had made significant progress in municipal governance and urban development and described the agreement as an important opportunity for Gulshan-i-Iqbal. He said local governments in Pakistan could learn from Türkiye’s model of providing basic services to citizens.
