Xiaomi has officially launched the Xiaomi 18 Fold, its first wide foldable smartphone, during an event in China.
The device enters the same category as Huawei’s Pura X Max and Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8, while Apple is also expected to enter the segment with the upcoming iPhone Ultra.
Design and Display
The Xiaomi 18 Fold uses an asymmetrical cover-screen design with very thin bezels.
The cover display has a centered punch-hole selfie camera, while the inner folding display places its camera in the top-right corner. The bezels around the folding screen are also thin and slightly raised to provide protection when the phone folds.
The rear is flat and features a horizontal camera bar containing three cameras.
Xiaomi offers the phone in four colors: Black, Ceramic Special Edition, Warm Gold and Nishino Red. These names are based on machine translation and could change if the device launches internationally.
The outer display measures 5.38 inches and uses an OLED panel with an adaptive 1-120Hz refresh rate, 300Hz touch sampling rate, and 1712 × 1168 resolution.
Inside is a 7.58-inch AMOLED display with a 1672 × 2364 resolution, adaptive 1-120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, and up to 4,000 nits peak brightness. The panel also uses UTG glass.
When folded, the phone measures 117.8 × 83.6 × 10.68mm. Unfolded, it measures 117.8 × 163.8 × 5.02mm and weighs 219g.
A fingerprint reader is built into the power button on the side.
Internals and Software
The Xiaomi 18 Fold is powered by Xiaomi’s new in-house XRING O3 chipset.
It is available with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and storage options ranging from 256GB to 1TB.
The 12GB version uses LPDDR5X memory. The 16GB configuration is offered with either LPDDR5X or LPDDR6 RAM, while all versions use UFS 4.1 storage.
The reported configurations include 12GB with 512GB storage, 16GB LPDDR5X with 512GB, and 16GB LPDDR6 with 1TB. The pricing information separately lists a 12GB + 256GB model as the entry version.
The phone comes with HyperOS 4 pre-installed. Android 17 is expected underneath, although Xiaomi’s specification sheet does not explicitly mention the Android version.
Connectivity includes 5G, LTE, dual SIM, Wi-Fi 7, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 6.0 and USB 3.2 Type-C.
No water-resistance rating has been specified.
Cameras
The Xiaomi 18 Fold has a triple rear camera setup led by a 200MP main camera with an f/1.7 aperture and optical image stabilization.
It is joined by a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with an f/2.8 aperture, OIS, 3.5x optical zoom, and 7x optical-quality zoom.
The third rear camera is a 50MP ultrawide with an f/2.4 aperture.
Both the cover display and inner folding display include separate 16MP selfie cameras.
Battery and Pricing
The Xiaomi 18 Fold packs a 6,000mAh battery.
It supports 67W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, along with 50W PPS wired charging.
Pricing starts at $1,937 for the 12GB RAM model with 256GB of storage.
Xiaomi has announced the phone in China. If it launches in international markets, its pricing could be higher.
