GTA 6 is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in a little over two months, but Rockstar Games has still not announced when the PC version will arrive.
Rockstar has historically taken around a year to bring its major games to PC after their console releases. GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 both followed a similar pattern after launching first on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
However, growing console prices and changing market conditions could reportedly push Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive to release GTA 6 on PC sooner than expected.
PC Version Could Arrive Within a Year
VGC’s Andy Robinson said during a recent episode of the VGC Podcast that he believes Rockstar could move the PC release forward.
“I do think they’ll push the PC version up,” Robinson said, adding that there has been “a bit of noise” suggesting the PC version could arrive earlier than some players expect because of current market conditions.
VGC has a strong track record, but there is currently no official confirmation that GTA 6 will launch on PC less than a year after its console release.
Rising Console Prices Could Influence Rockstar
An earlier PC release could make financial sense because many players do not own a current-generation console but already have gaming PCs.
Technologies such as NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR could also help GTA 6 run on somewhat older PC hardware.
Rockstar and Take-Two could potentially coordinate the PC launch with the next version of GTA Online.
Launching GTA Online around the same period could give it additional exposure following what is expected to be a highly successful GTA 6 PC release.
PS5 Pro Could Offer the Best Console Experience
Players who want to experience GTA 6 at its best without waiting for the eventual PC release may have to turn to the PlayStation 5 Pro.
Rockstar has not fully detailed the PS5 Pro version yet.
A recent leak suggests the developer could keep the game running at 30 FPS, similar to the standard console version, while targeting a 4K experience.
PC emulation has also become more plausible following rapid progress with the KyTyPS5 emulator, which has already demonstrated the ability to run GTA V.
For now, Rockstar has not confirmed a GTA 6 PC release date, meaning reports of an earlier launch should still be treated as speculation.
