UK Assures Pakistan of Resolving Student Visa Delays

The federal law minister has raised concerns over delays in UK visa processing for Pakistani students, while British High Commissioner Jane Marriott assured him that the issue would be addressed.

Marriott met Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar to discuss Pakistan UK relations, matters of mutual interest and ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, Tarar highlighted the difficulties faced by Pakistani students due to delays in UK visa processing. He said hundreds of students could lose their academic year if they do not receive their visas on time.

The minister stressed the need to remove hurdles for Pakistani students seeking education abroad and briefed Marriott on government efforts to address their concerns. Tarar said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had directed the formation of a committee under his chairmanship to improve the legal and institutional framework for Pakistani students studying abroad.

He said the committee had finalized its recommendations and the government was working to further strengthen the framework and establish an effective mechanism to address students’ problems. Marriott assured Tarar that the issue of visa delays affecting Pakistani students would be addressed.

The meeting also covered ways to strengthen educational links, institutional cooperation and engagement between Pakistan and the United Kingdom. Minister of State for Law, Justice and Human Rights Barrister Aqeel Malik also attended the meeting.
