Apple’s iPhone 17 remained the world’s best-selling smartphone in Q2 2026, maintaining the top position it secured during the first quarter of the year.
According to Counterpoint Research, the base iPhone 17 alone accounted for 6% of global smartphone unit sales between April and June.
Apple and Samsung completely dominated the top 10, with five smartphones each making the list.
Apple Takes the Top Three Spots
The iPhone 17 Pro Max ranked second, followed by the iPhone 17 Pro in third place, giving Apple all three of the leading positions globally.
The iPhone 17e and iPhone 16 also appeared among the world’s 10 best-selling smartphones.
Apple’s total smartphone sales increased 5% year-on-year despite the wider market shrinking.
The company recorded stronger sales in Japan and the Middle East and Africa, while iPhone sales in South Korea nearly doubled during the quarter.
Counterpoint attributed the iPhone 17’s performance partly to upgrades that reduced the gap between the standard model and Apple’s more expensive Pro phones.
Galaxy S26 Ultra Leads Android Phones
Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra was the world’s best-selling Android smartphone during Q2.
It also became the first ultra-premium Android phone to lead Android sales during a June quarter.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra improved its ranking by five positions compared with its predecessor and accounted for more than half of Galaxy S26 series sales during the quarter.
Samsung’s Galaxy S26 also reached the top 10.
Three cheaper Galaxy A-series phones completed Samsung’s representation: the Galaxy A07 4G, Galaxy A17 5G and Galaxy A17 4G.
Apple and Samsung Control the Entire Top 10
Together, Apple and Samsung’s 10 smartphones accounted for 26% of all smartphones sold globally during Q2 2026, up two percentage points from the same period last year.
This was also the highest contribution from the top 10 smartphones ever recorded during a June quarter.
The concentration increased even as the wider smartphone market struggled. Global smartphone sales declined 11% year-on-year during Q2 2026, with weakness particularly affecting entry-level and mid-range devices.
Despite the market slowdown, premium smartphones continued to perform relatively well, helping Apple and Samsung strengthen their positions among the world’s best-selling devices.
