Sindh Announces New School Timings Across Province

Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah has announced a one-hour reduction in school hours across the province in response to the ongoing extreme heat. Speaking at an event in Karachi, Shah said the province had so far failed to develop a uniform policy to address the challenges faced by students during extreme weather.

He said children were being forced to attend classes in temperatures reaching 52°C, with some students studying in the open because several schools lack adequate roofs and basic facilities.

Shah said forcing children to study outdoors in extreme heat reflects the poor condition of the education system and stressed the need to address their difficulties immediately. He also called for schools to be equipped with proper roofs and other essential facilities to protect students from extreme weather.

The provincial education minister said providing adequate shelter and basic facilities at schools had become essential to protect children from severe heat. He also called for greater funding for education from the federal Public Sector Development Program (PSDP), which has an annual allocation of Rs. 1,200 billion, saying more funds should be allocated to the education sector.
