The Punjab Police has approved a new policy to standardise the design of uniforms across all operational units during the current financial year.
Under the decision, badges, caps, berets, medals, pockets and name plates will follow a single approved pattern, while the existing colour of the uniforms will remain unchanged.
Police officials said the move aims to create a uniform appearance across the force. Previously, different units used different designs and patterns for uniforms and accessories.
The department plans to purchase more than 253,000 uniforms this year for the District Police, Punjab Highway Patrol, Traffic Police, Elite Force, Special Protection Unit, Regional Mounted Police and other formations.
Officials said the District Police alone will receive more than 125,000 olive-green uniforms.
The provincial government has allocated nearly Rs2 billion in the current budget for the procurement plan. Authorities said every police officer serving in the various units will receive at least one new uniform under the programme.
Officials added that the pre-qualification process for the procurement of the 253,000 uniforms will begin later this month.
They also said around 90,000 uniforms purchased for the district police under last year’s programme have already been received and will soon be distributed among personnel.
