The Punjab government has proposed creating a new force under the Excise and Taxation Department to improve the collection of sanitation taxes and charges across the province.
According to City42 news channel, citing official documents, the proposal calls for 305 new positions in the Excise and Taxation Department, including 300 Excise and Taxation Constable posts in Grade 5.
The proposed force would collect sanitation charges from around 4.7 million properties across Punjab. Officials have proposed deploying seven to eight constables in each district to handle collections. The force would also distribute sanitation charge bills, follow up with defaulters and recover outstanding dues.
The proposal recommends appointing one director and four deputy directors to supervise the force. The proposed team would work specifically for the Suthra Punjab Program under the Director General of Excise and Taxation.
Officials have also proposed providing the force with 300 electric motorcycles for field operations. The plan includes purchasing one 1,300cc car and four Cultus cars for monitoring and enforcement activities.
According to the documents, the government has sought Rs. 113 million for the purchase of the 300 electric motorcycles and five vehicles. Officials are also considering a supplementary grant to cover the salaries and other expenses associated with the new positions and vehicles.
