The Sindh government has extended tax and registration incentives for electric vehicles by two more years.
The decision was taken at a Sindh cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah at the Chief Minister House, where the provincial government approved key measures to promote clean, environment-friendly and sustainable transport.
The cabinet extended tax and registration concessions for non-commercial electric vehicles and approved a package of incentives for EV registration and taxation.
Under the new decision, the incentives will remain in place until May 29, 2028.
The cabinet also approved the proposal of the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department related to electric vehicles.
According to the decision, the registration fee for electric vehicles will remain fixed at Rs1,000. The annual motor vehicle tax on non-commercial electric vehicles will stay at Rs500.
For electric motorcycles, a one-time lifetime motor vehicle tax of Rs500 will apply.
The cabinet further decided that electric vehicles with an engine capacity of 2,000cc or above, or equivalent, will be subject to a luxury tax of Rs5,000.
A late registration penalty of Rs1,000 has also been fixed for electric vehicles.
The incentives will apply from May 30, 2026, to May 29, 2028.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said the promotion of electric vehicles would help reduce dependence on imported fuel.
He said greater use of EVs would also cut carbon emissions and help reduce urban air pollution.
Murad Ali Shah said encouraging electric vehicle use is a key part of the Sindh government’s strategy.
He added that continued tax relief would promote EV adoption in the province, while incentives would also support investment in the electric mobility sector.
The chief minister said wider EV use would improve air quality in cities by reducing carbon emissions.
Under the cabinet’s decision, Sindh will continue to promote clean, environment-friendly and sustainable transport through tax and registration incentives for electric vehicles.
