Punjab Approves New Rules for Private Housing Schemes
The Punjab government has approved major amendments to the rules governing private housing schemes in a bid to improve regulation, transparency, and the development of affordable housing across the province.
The provincial cabinet approved changes to the Punjab Development Authority Private Housing Schemes Rules 2021 and revised the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA) Affordable Private Housing Scheme Rules 2020.
Under the amended framework, the approval, regulation, and monitoring of new private housing schemes will be carried out through updated procedures aimed at strengthening oversight and improving governance in the sector.
Officials said the changes are intended to make the regulatory system more effective while increasing accountability in private housing development.
The revised rules are also expected to encourage investment in affordable housing by facilitating the development of low-cost residential projects across Punjab.
The Punjab Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Department will oversee the implementation of the reforms and ensure enforcement of the updated regulations.
