The Directorate of Drug Control Punjab has ordered an immediate stoppage of the supply, sale, and use of several batches of an injectable medicine after concerns were raised about sterility and compliance with manufacturing requirements.
The alert concerns Injection Pd-Meek 1 mL, which contains Mecobalamin 500mcg/mL and bears registration number 040562.
According to the public notice, the product had previously been declared “Adulterated and Standard” by the Drugs Testing Laboratory in Punjab.
A recall has been initiated for the affected batches, including MC26020, MC26021, MC26022, MC26023 and MC26024.
During an inspection of the manufacturing facility, drug inspectors found that the batches had been released into the supply chain before completion of mandatory sterility testing, in violation of applicable Good Manufacturing Practices.
Authorities said the sterility, quality, safety, and efficacy of the affected batches could not be assured at this stage, creating a potential risk to public health.
The Provincial Quality Control Board Punjab has directed that the medicine stoppage alert remain in place until the investigation is completed and further directions are issued.
Pharmacies, medical stores, wholesalers, distributors, healthcare facilities and all other holders of the affected batches have been instructed to immediately stop their sale, purchase, dispensing, distribution and use.
They have also been asked to quarantine available stocks, keep them separately, and report the inventory to the relevant drug inspector or healthcare facility drug inspector.
The notice says drug inspectors and regulators across Punjab must ensure implementation of the alert and secure the available stock in accordance with the Drugs Act 1976, DRAP Act 2012 and related rules.
