Pakistan Moves Ahead With New National Youth Policy
The federal cabinet has given in-principle approval to the National Adolescent and Youth Policy, a proposed national framework covering education, employment, participation and the environment, according to a government statement issued after the cabinet meeting in Islamabad.
The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. The policy was presented by the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination and is intended to bring young people into the government’s policy framework and improve their access to economic and social opportunities.
The proposed framework is built around four areas: education, employment, participation and the environment. The government also plans to establish the Pakistan Youth Development Council and the Federal Adolescent and Youth Agency as part of the policy’s implementation.
The cabinet was informed that 32,145 surveys had been conducted across Pakistan during the policy formulation process, while the views of more than 200,000 young people had been sought. The prime minister directed that suggestions from cabinet members be incorporated into the policy.
The cabinet also ratified decisions taken by the Cabinet Committee on State Owned Enterprises at its July 9, 2026 meeting.
It also ratified decisions of the Economic Coordination Committee meeting held on August 14, 2026, along with decisions taken by the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Cases at meetings held on June 18, July 30, August 5 and August 18, 2026.
