Riyadh Air has launched its operations in Pakistan, with the Saudi airline’s inaugural flight arriving at Islamabad International Airport from Riyadh, the Pakistan Airports Authority said on Saturday.
Riyadh Air flight RX-660 landed in Islamabad on Friday evening with 69 passengers. The PAA later held an inauguration ceremony at the airport, where Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki attended as the chief guest.
Riyadh Air will operate seven flights a week between Riyadh and Islamabad, giving passengers another direct connection between the two capitals, according to the PAA.
The new service comes as Saudi Arabia hosts more than two million Pakistanis, creating substantial demand for travel between the two countries. The flights will serve Pakistani workers, business travelers, families and religious pilgrims who regularly travel between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
PAA Director General Air Vice Marshal Zeeshan Saeed welcomed Riyadh Air’s entry into the Pakistani market. He said the new service would improve passenger connectivity and promote greater cooperation in the aviation sector.
Riyadh Air, which Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund wholly owns, serves as the Kingdom’s new national carrier. The airline plans to connect Riyadh with more than 100 destinations worldwide by the end of the decade as Saudi Arabia seeks to expand its aviation sector under Vision 2030. After arriving in Islamabad, the Riyadh Air aircraft later departed for Riyadh with 272 passengers.
