HugoBank Completes Licensing Process After SBP Approval

HugoBank Limited has received official regulatory authorization from the State Bank of Pakistan, completing its licensing process and clearing a key hurdle before the start of commercial operations.

The digital retail bank received the authorization on August 4, 2026, marking a major milestone in its efforts to enter Pakistan’s growing digital banking and financial services market.

HugoBank said the Special Investment Facilitation Council played an important role during its regulatory journey by providing support, guidance and coordination with relevant government institutions.

According to the company, SIFC’s engagement helped address key regulatory matters and facilitated the completion of the licensing process. The development highlights the role of institutional coordination in helping foreign backed businesses navigate regulatory requirements in Pakistan.

HugoBank is backed by significant foreign investment and is expected to contribute to the expansion of digital financial services, financial inclusion and technology driven banking in the country.
