The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has approved or recommended five development projects worth Rs. 60.259 billion, covering health, roads, science and technology, housing and water supply.
The biggest project discussed was the Rs. 29 billion water supply scheme for Gwadar Town from Mirani Dam. It was also referred to ECNEC.
Ahsan Iqbal directed the Balochistan government to study wastewater treatment in Gwadar to prevent sewage from polluting the sea. He allowed the project to move to the bidding stage but said no contract should be awarded until ECNEC approval.
The meeting approved three projects worth Rs. 11.714 billion, while two projects worth Rs. 48.545 billion were referred to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).
The approved projects include the establishment of a Medical and Nursing College in Gilgit at a revised cost of Rs. 4.924 billion. Ahsan Iqbal stressed the need to complete the project, which was initiated in 2017 but faced delays due to funding constraints.
The CDWP also approved the establishment of a National Defence University (NDU) FCS Campus at Defence Complex Islamabad at a cost of Rs. 2.753 billion.
Another approved project is the 53.4-kilometre road from Zera to Daboori in Orakzai District, costing Rs. 4.037 billion. The planning minister directed authorities to release the remaining funds before winter to help complete the long-delayed project, which dates back to 2016.
The Rs. 19.545 billion Karachi Neighborhood Improvement Project was referred to ECNEC. The project will be financed through foreign funding and the Sindh government’s development program.
