Heavy rains disrupted railway operations in Rawalpindi and Islamabad after the Manikyala-Sihala railway track was submerged under nearly two feet of water, forcing authorities to halt eight trains bound for Lahore, Multan, Quetta, and Karachi.
Railway authorities suspended operations on the affected section from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. due to severe waterlogging. Trains arriving from Lahore and Karachi were also stopped from passing through the section.
The suspension left passengers stranded for six to eight hours, with some staging protests over the lack of food and other facilities.
Pakistan Express, Khyber Mail, Rehman Baba, Tezgam, and two Rawalpindi-Lahore Railcars were among the trains held at Chaklala Railway Station.
Railway officials declared the Manikyala-Sihala section highly hazardous and restricted trains passing through the area to speeds of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour. Experts also warned against operating trains on the waterlogged track.
The disruption comes as Rawalpindi continues to face heavy rainfall for the fourth consecutive day.
Railway authorities said services on the Manikyala-Sihala section would resume once the water recedes and the track is declared safe for train movement.
