Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal has expressed strong displeasure over the condition of private rooms at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, warning that negligence in maintenance will no longer be tolerated.
During his visit to the PIMS Cardiac Centre in Islamabad on Friday, the minister inspected several facilities, including the electrophysiology catheterization laboratory. He also spoke to patients about the difficulties they were facing and the services being provided to them.
Kamal became visibly upset after seeing the condition of the cardiac centre’s private rooms.
Pointing to a damaged wall, he questioned why staff were only painting it instead of fixing the underlying problem. He warned that the wall could eventually collapse and pose a serious safety risk.
“You will not get six months to understand the condition of the hospital, so you should start work immediately,” Mustafa Kamal told the executive director of PIMS.
He directed Dr Salman, the executive director of PIMS, to monitor repair work in the hospital on a daily basis.
The federal health minister also said that anyone failing to perform their duties should be removed from the post.
He added that competent and efficient staff should be appointed in place of inefficient officials.
