The federal government has canceled the licenses of 50 pilots and suspended those of 33 others following allegations involving fake pilot licenses, Geo News reported.
According to a written response submitted by the Ministry of Defence during Friday’s Question Hour, the action was taken under the Civil Aviation Rules, 1994.
The ministry said international flight restrictions imposed on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) by the United Kingdom, European Union and United States over allegations of fake pilot licenses caused the airline to lose Rs. 200 billion in revenue between August 2020 and December 2024.
PIA also lost access to the UK market, which the ministry described as its most profitable international market. The airline’s competitors, including Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, benefited from PIA’s absence from the market, according to the written response.
The government has also formed a cabinet committee headed by the defense minister to examine the matter, the response said.
