Electric Bus Kills School Girl in Rawalpindi

A schoolgirl was killed after being run over by a green electric bus in front of Gelani Mart in Rawalpindi, prompting angry residents to block the road in protest.

Eyewitnesses said the bus struck the girl, resulting in her death on the spot. Following the incident, locals halted traffic and staged a demonstration at the scene, demanding action against those responsible.

The green electric buses are part of Punjab’s mass transit initiative, introduced in Rawalpindi and other major cities as an eco-friendly public transport option aimed at reducing fuel costs and carbon emissions.

The fleet has faced safety concerns since its rollout, with earlier incidents also drawing public attention. In May, a green electric bus was involved in a collision near Mareer Chowk in Rawalpindi’s Cantt area after colliding with a speeding vehicle at a U-turn, shattering the bus’s windows, though passengers escaped unharmed.

Further details regarding the exact circumstances of the recent accident and the identity of the victim are undisclosed.
