Capt (Retd) Mahmood Gets Additional Charge of Health Secretary

The federal government has given Capt. (Retd) Muhammad Mahmood additional charge of the post of Secretary, National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Division after the incumbent, Muhammad Aslam Ghauri, was suspended.

The Establishment Division issued a notification on Wednesday appointing Mahmood, a BS-21 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service, to hold the additional charge.

Mahmood is currently serving as Secretary, Housing and Works Division and will continue to hold that position alongside his new responsibility.

The additional charge has been assigned under Section 10 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973, for three months or until a regular secretary is appointed, whichever comes earlier. The appointment takes effect immediately.

The development follows the Cabinet Secretariat’s decision to suspend Aslam Ghauri, a BS-22 officer of the Secretariat Group who was serving as Health Secretary.

Ghauri has been suspended under Rule 5 of the Civil Servants (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules, 2020, for an initial period of 120 days with immediate effect.

Both notifications have been circulated to the relevant government offices, including the Prime Minister’s Office, President’s Secretariat, Cabinet Division and Establishment Division, and will be published in the Gazette of Pakistan.
