Good News Announced for Members of Long-Delayed Housing Society in Islamabad
Development work on the long-delayed Green Enclave-I housing project is expected to be completed within 18 months, the project joint venture (JV) partner Dr. Hafeez Abbasi assured the Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works on Tuesday.
The committee reviewed the project’s prolonged delay and the difficulties faced by thousands of allottees during a meeting chaired by Senator Nasir Mehmood.
Members expressed concern over the years-long delay despite the project receiving legal clearance after the Supreme Court quashed a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) inquiry in 2018. The delay has also significantly increased the project’s cost.
The committee was informed that a third-party assessment found that payments released so far corresponded to around 52% of the work completed. Negotiations between FGEHA and the JV partner have now concluded, while approval of the increased project cost remains pending before the FGEHA Executive Board.
The board is scheduled to consider the matter on September 9. Dr. Abbasi said the project would be completed within 18 months once the required approvals are secured. The committee ordered quarterly site visits to monitor progress and directed FGEHA to provide a copy of the new agreement with the JV partner.
The committee was also informed that authorities had cleared more than 60% of encroachments in FGEHA schemes and recovered around 3,000 kanals of encroached land in Islamabad.
