NCCIA Busts Call Center Used for Investment and E-Commerce Scams
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Rawalpindi has busted an organized illegal call center allegedly operating an online financial fraud network and arrested 28 people in connection with the case.
Officials said the arrested suspects include 24 men and four women, all Pakistani employees who allegedly worked for the network. Investigators also seized computers, mobile phones and other digital equipment allegedly used to carry out the fraudulent activities.
Authorities registered a First Information Report (FIR) on August 25, 2026, under Section 14 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016, along with Sections 419, 420, 468, 471 and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
Preliminary investigations found that the network allegedly targeted victims through fake e-commerce platforms and fraudulent investment schemes. The suspects reportedly used Telegram channels and deceptive female profiles on Facebook to attract potential victims.
According to investigators, the perpetrators persuaded victims to deposit money by promising lucrative returns, causing significant financial losses.
Investigators also identified a Chinese national as the alleged mastermind behind the operation. Authorities said the individual went into hiding following earlier law enforcement operations and remains absconding. The investigation into the network is continuing.
