Illegal migration of Pakistani nationals to Europe declined by 64% during the first two months of 2026 compared with the same period last year, according to available data from Frontex.
Figures from the European Union’s border and coast guard agency show that 1,224 Pakistani nationals were detected attempting illegal border crossings in January and February 2025. The number dropped to around 440 during the corresponding period of 2026, representing a decline of 784 cases.
The data also shows changes in the routes traditionally used by Pakistani migrants attempting to enter Europe illegally. At one stage, detections of Pakistani nationals on the Central Mediterranean route fell by 63%.
The decline comes as the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has increased action against human smuggling networks and illegal migration under the direction of Director General FIA Usman Anwar. Authorities have also stepped up monitoring of both traditional and emerging routes being used by human smugglers.
At the same time, the FIA is introducing measures to ensure that stronger immigration controls do not create unnecessary problems for Pakistanis traveling abroad legally.
Additional Director General Immigration Nauman Siddiqui said clear procedures had been introduced on the directions of the DG FIA to curb illegal migration while facilitating passengers traveling with genuine documents.
Under the new procedures, passengers cannot be offloaded without justification. Immigration officials are required to record in writing the reasons for stopping a passenger from traveling.
A prescribed form has also been introduced at airports to document offloading decisions. Such cases are being monitored at the supervisory level to improve accountability and prevent arbitrary action against genuine travelers.
The FIA is also modernizing its travel document verification system to help immigration officials identify forged or suspicious documents and attempts at illegal travel at an early stage.
According to Siddiqui, technology-based verification and improved monitoring mechanisms are being developed to make immigration clearance more effective while ensuring smoother processing for genuine passengers.
