1st National Submersible Autonomous Vehicle Design Competition 2026 Held

The University of Lahore (UOL) successfully organized the 1st National Submersible Autonomous Vehicle Design Competition 2026.
The national level competition was graced as chief guest by Rear Admiral Sohail Ahmad Azmie, Commandant Pakistan Navy War College and Commander Central Punjab (COMCEP). The event was jointly organized by the Integrated Engineering Centre of Excellence (IECE), the Mechanical Engineering Department (MED), and the Mechanical Engineering Society (MES).

Commending the initiative, Rear Admiral Sohail Ahmad Azmie remarked that the country’s young minds possess considerable potential to drive innovation in deep-water engineering and robotics, and to develop novel solutions that could strengthen national defense capabilities by addressing emerging challenges confronting the defense sector.

He lauded the underwater autonomous vehicle designs showcased by the university students. He observed a live demonstration of the projects in the swimming pool to assess their practical viability, and also reviewed the accompanying thematic briefs outlining the projects’ underlying concepts.

The national competition witnessed participation from 14 teams representing leading academic institutions, including the Institute of Space Technology (IST), NUST, UET Taxila, PU, and UOL among others.


Additionally, the Stakeholders’ Forum convened experts and representatives from a diverse range of organizations, including the Pakistan Navy War College (PNWC), SUPARCO, PTA, Punjab Irrigation Department, Punjab Environmental Protection and Climate Change Department, Pakistan Meteorological Department, and LUMS-WIT.

The competition concluded with the University of the Punjab securing first position. Team Hydronaut from NUST School of Mechanical Engineering claimed second position, while Team Mistry Phantoms from the Mechanical Engineering Department, UET Taxila, secured third place.

The chief guest distributed prizes and certificates among the winning teams and participants in recognition of their efforts and achievements. A group photograph was taken to commemorate the occasion, followed by an exchange of souvenirs between the organizers and the distinguished guests.
