Punjab to Launch Free Kidney, Liver Transplant Program at Major Hospital

Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique visited the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) Rawalpindi on Thursday on the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to review clinical operations and healthcare facilities.

During the visit, Rafique inspected various hospital departments and spoke with patients about the medical facilities they were receiving. The minister also chaired a meeting with PKLI Rawalpindi management, which briefed him on the hospital’s performance, healthcare services and administrative affairs.

Rafique announced that the Punjab government would soon launch a free kidney and liver transplant program under the chief minister’s initiative.

He also congratulated the medical staff after PKLI Rawalpindi successfully performed two liver transplants, calling the achievement a major milestone.

Rafique said providing world-class and standardized healthcare services remained a top priority for the Punjab government. He added that PKLI Rawalpindi was expanding advanced healthcare facilities for patients suffering from kidney and liver diseases.
