10-Year-Old Taunsa Hydropower Issue Finally Resolved

A decade-old issue involving the reimbursement of feasibility study costs for the 135-megawatt Taunsa Hydropower Project in Punjab has been resolved.

China Three Gorges South Asia Investment Ltd. (CSAIL) has appreciated the government’s efforts in resolving the long-pending matter.

In a letter, CSAIL thanked the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) for coordinating with federal and provincial authorities and helping bring the issue to a conclusion.

The company said the coordination helped revive the matter and paved the way for implementation of the relevant decisions taken by the Government of Punjab.

CSAIL said the resolution showed that long-standing issues affecting investment projects can be addressed through coordination between government institutions.

The company also said the development would help strengthen investor confidence and could support Pakistan’s investment relationship with China.

The Taunsa Hydropower Project has a planned generation capacity of 135 MW and is located in Punjab.
