World’s First Rugged Phone Launched With Detachable Modular Camera

RugOne, a brand under Ulefone, has announced the Xsnap 7 Pro, a new rugged smartphone with a detachable action camera. The device will make its official debut at IFA Berlin. RugOne previously introduced its Xever 7 series of rugged phones at IFA last year.

Design and Display

The Xsnap 7 Pro features a 6.67-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Its standout design feature is a cube-shaped detachable camera that fits inside the phone’s rear panel when it is not being used. The camera connects magnetically to the phone for storage.

The phone also carries an IP69K rating for dust and water resistance and will be available in Classic Black and Sand Dune colors.

The detachable camera itself is waterproof at depths of up to 5 metres.

Internals and Software

The Xsnap 7 Pro is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 8400 chipset.

The detachable camera includes 64GB of built-in storage and connects wirelessly to the smartphone through a companion app.

Cameras

The phone has a 50MP main rear camera with optical image stabilization.

It also includes a 64MP infrared night-vision camera with dedicated IR LEDs for shooting in dark conditions.

In addition to these built-in cameras, the Xsnap 7 Pro comes with its removable action camera. The detachable module can record video at up to 2.7K resolution at 30fps.

Battery and Pricing

According to Engadget, the detachable camera can record for up to 40 minutes on a single charge.

The Xsnap 7 Pro will debut at IFA this weekend before launching on Kickstarter on September 7. Its early-bird Kickstarter price will be approximately $928.

The rugged phone is also expected to become available globally starting next month for $999.
