Negotiations between the federal government and the All Pakistan Goods Transport Owners Association ended without a final agreement on Tuesday and the nationwide wheel-jam strike will continue until transporters’ demands are accepted, sources told ProPakistani.
The talks were held at the Ministry of Communications, where representatives of the transporters discussed their demands in detail with government officials. Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan pledged to work toward resolving their concerns. However, the meeting failed to produce a final agreement or formal acceptance of the transporters’ demands.
Association President Muhammad Owais Chaudhry Advocate said transporters would not withdraw their demands. He said the association was willing to continue negotiations with the government, but the nationwide strike would remain in place until their demands were practically accepted.
The transporters’ key demands include effective and uniform enforcement of axle-load limits in accordance with the law, relief from taxes, and a shift from daily to monthly revisions in diesel prices.
Chaudhry said the door for negotiations remained open and the transporters wanted a resolution through dialogue. However, he made it clear that the strike would not be called off without acceptance of their demands.
The nationwide wheel-jam strike will continue until the transporters’ demands are approved.
