Transporters Ask Islamabad Police to Stop Using Containers in Politics

Transporters have demanded the immediate release of container vehicles allegedly seized by Islamabad Police for use in preparations for a political sit-in, saying their commercial vehicles should not be used for political activities.

Muhammad Owais Chaudhry said the reported seizure of container vehicles by Islamabad Police was unacceptable and urged the authorities to return all vehicles currently in police custody to their owners.

Chaudhry said transporters had no connection with political protests or sit ins and their vehicles were meant to support trade and commercial activity. He said using business vehicles for political purposes was unfair to transporters and disrupted their operations.

He said keeping the seized vehicles in remote areas was creating additional difficulties for their owners. He urged the government to ensure that transporters’ vehicles were not taken for political purposes in the future.

Chaudhry also called for a transparent investigation into the alleged seizure of vehicles and claims of bribery in connection with their release. He said all vehicles currently under police control should be handed back to their owners without delay.

He said the forced takeover of commercial vehicles by state institutions created an impression of state coercion and urged Islamabad Police to immediately release the container vehicles.
