Telegram Wants to Give 1 Billion Users Their Own Domains

Telegram has applied for the .gram top-level domain, a move that could eventually give its billion users personalized web addresses linked to their Telegram usernames.

Telegram founder Pavel Durov confirmed the application and said the plan depends on approval from the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

Telegram Usernames Could Become Web Domains

If ICANN approves the application, Telegram users could receive their own second-level .gram domains.

For example, a Telegram username such as @durov could become durov.gram, while @monk could become monk.gram.

This would effectively turn Telegram usernames into web addresses under the company’s proposed .gram domain.

Users Could Build Websites With One Prompt

Telegram also plans to let users create interactive websites connected to their .gram domains.

According to Durov, these websites would be hosted by Telegram, and users would be able to set them up simply by entering a single prompt.

The feature remains dependent on ICANN approving Telegram’s application for the .gram top-level domain.
