Sony’s Latest Midranger is Here, But Almost Nothing Has Changed

Sony has officially launched the Xperia 10 VIII, its latest mid-range smartphone. However, the new model brings only a few changes over the previous Xperia 10 VII while carrying a starting price of €599 in Europe and £549 in the UK.

The Xperia 10 VIII keeps the same display, chipset, cameras and battery capacity as its predecessor. Sony has instead focused on minor improvements such as a brighter screen, louder speakers and newer software.

The phone is scheduled to launch in mid to late September.

Design and Display

The Xperia 10 VIII features a 6.1-inch LTPS OLED display with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Sony says the screen is now 50% brighter than the previous model, although the company has not provided an exact peak brightness figure.

The phone retains front-firing stereo speakers positioned in the top and bottom bezels. Sony claims the speakers are now 30% more powerful compared with the previous generation.

The Xperia 10 VIII will be available in Frozen White, Frosted Grey and Misty Lilac.

Internals and Software

The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

Sony has retained a microSD card slot, allowing users to expand the storage. The phone also includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, making it one of the few modern smartphones to retain wired headphone support.

On the software side, the Xperia 10 VIII runs Android 16 with Sony’s near-stock Android interface. The company promises up to four major Android OS updates.

Cameras

The Xperia 10 VIII uses a dual-camera setup on the rear.

The main camera features a 50MP sensor with a 1/1.56-inch sensor size, while a 13MP ultrawide camera handles wider shots.

The camera hardware remains largely unchanged from the Xperia 10 VII.

Battery

The phone packs a 5,000mAh battery, matching its predecessor.

It supports 30W wired charging. Sony has not increased the battery capacity despite the phone’s other display and speaker improvements.

Pricing and Availability

The Sony Xperia 10 VIII starts at €599 in Europe and £549 in the UK.

The phone is expected to go on sale in mid to late September.
