Sindh Declares 5 IV Sets Substandard

The Sindh Drug Testing Laboratory has declared five different companies’ IV infusion sets substandard, raising fresh concerns over medical equipment quality and infection control in the province.

According to Drug Testing Laboratory Sindh Director Adnan Rizvi, the tested samples failed to meet the required standards.

He said the tube length in the five IV drip sets did not match the prescribed specifications, while the material used in their manufacture was also found to be substandard.

The samples were collected from Noshehro Feroze and Karachi’s Malir area. Dr Rizvi said all five products were declared substandard under the Medical Devices Rules 2017.

The Sindh Drug Testing Laboratory has sent its report to the concerned drug inspectors and also forwarded the test results to the secretary of the provincial Quality Control Board.

The development comes amid growing concern over the spread of HIV in Sindh and has further raised questions about the quality of medical supplies used in healthcare facilities.
