Silo showrunner Graham Yost teases what to expect from Season 4 — including one key characters fate
Silo showrunner Graham Yost can sum up the fourth and final season in two words: “It’s war.”
The upcoming season, set for a summer 2027 release, picks up in the wake of Season 3’s twisty finale, which took viewers inside Silo 1. There, we discovered survivors from the show’s past timeline, who are cryogenically frozen and periodically reawakened to serve shifts controlling the other silos. Among them are Daniel Keene (Ashley Zukerman) and his sister Charlotte (Jessica Brown Findlay), whose memories have been erased and who have been renamed Troy and Susan.
Troy butts heads with Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson) at the end of Season 3, in a sequence that merges the show’s timelines and sets the stage for a showdown between Silo 18 and Silo 1, and between Juliette and Daniel. According to Yost, that means we’ll be getting more of Juliette on the warpath.
“[This season] Juliette has come from not knowing who she was to saying, ‘We have to take on Silo 1.’ That’s Juliette. That is the full return of Juliette. In Season 4, we are full-on Juliette from the first frame of the season to essentially the final one,” Yost told Mashable.
On top of Juliette’s full return, Silo Season 4 is also going to be showing more of the inner workings of Silo 1.
“Certain characters we’ve spent some time with really move up into the fore,” Yost said of the new focus on Silo 1.
Among the characters you can expect to see more of are Senator Rosalind Thurman (Laura Innes), her daughter Anna (Morven Christie), her aide Henry (Reed Birney), and Charlotte, now Susan.
However, several key characters are missing from that list. What happened to trillionaire Per Stensen (Colin Hanks)? Or journalist Helen Drew (Jessica Henwick)? Both their fates were left unclear following the nuclear explosion that sent the silo residents underground. (But Per had to have engineered the apocalypse, right? The timing was too convenient!)
Yost confirmed that we could get answers on at least one of these topics. “The biggest thing is you will find out what happened to Helen,” Yost said.
Knowing Helen’s fate post-explosion will help better connect the past and the present, including finding out how the Pez dispenser and Helen and Daniel’s baby’s sonogram photo became relics in Silo 18. Plus, Helen and her baby are likely the ancestors of some Silo 18 citizen we’ve grown to know and love over the seasons. Who is their descendant?
In an interview with Backstage, Henwick confirmed that she will be back for Season 4, meaning we’re likely in for flashbacks to her time in Silo 18. What did her life look like there, especially in the aftermath of the explosion? And was she, in true journalistic fashion, able to uncover secrets about the silos’ true purpose?
