Rawalpindi district has received approval for 18 development schemes worth more than Rs. 6.5 billion, covering road rehabilitation, construction, improvement and widening projects across the district.
Officials reviewed the progress of the projects during a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, chaired by Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Nasir. The meeting also covered water supply, sewerage and other development schemes under the Punjab Development Program.
According to the briefing, authorities identified 21 development schemes with a combined estimated cost of more than Rs. 6.5229 billion, with 18 schemes already approved.
The approved projects include nine schemes of the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) worth Rs. 1.6 billion and nine District Council schemes worth Rs. 4.8 billion. The Punjab Highway Department will execute the road projects, while the RMC and District Council will provide the required funds.
The road schemes cover Khayaban-i-Sir Syed, Bokra Road, Fifth Road, Rawal Road, the Chandni Chowk to Commercial Market stretch, Railway Workshop Road and Gordon College Road. Projects will also cover roads in Taxila, Gujar Khan, Kallar Syedan and Kahuta.
Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Nasir directed officials to monitor the projects regularly and ensure timely and quality completion. He also ordered action against contractors who fail to meet required standards or timelines and said he would personally inspect ongoing projects.
