Rahat Fateh Ali Khan Faces Backlash for Performing Qawwali at Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s Grave

Renowned Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has come under criticism on social media after paying tribute to legendary qawwali maestro Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan on his death anniversary.

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan passed away nearly three decades ago, but his music and distinctive voice continue to have a strong following in Pakistan and around the world.

On his death anniversary, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and his son Shah Zaman Ali Khan visited Nusrat’s final resting place to pay their respects.

The two later performed qawwali at the graveside, with people also throwing rupees as a traditional offering during the performance. A large number of fans and other visitors were present at the site.

Videos of the gathering have since circulated widely on social media, drawing mixed reactions from users.

While some praised Rahat for remembering his legendary uncle and honoring his musical legacy, others criticized the decision to perform qawwali at the grave.

Several users questioned whether such a performance was appropriate at a burial site, while others defended it as a tribute to Nusrat’s artistic legacy.
