Punjab Responds to Viral Notification About Basant 2027

The Punjab Home Department has clarified that it has not issued any notification regarding the celebration of Basant 2027 in the province. The department said a notification circulating on social media about holding Basant 2027 across Punjab is fake and fabricated.

The department urged the public to disregard unverified information circulating on social media and rely only on official sources for information related to Basant 2027.

The fake notification, dated August 15, 2026, carries the subject “Celebration of Basant 2027 in the Province of Punjab” and claims that the festival will take place across Punjab under new safety rules and regulations. It also mentions an expected celebration date in the last week of January 2027 and calls for arrangements to ensure a safe and peaceful event.

The fabricated document lists several purported safety measures, including the use of approved kite string, a ban on the use and sale of dangerous Chinese or metallic string, designated places for kite flying, and security and first aid arrangements by district administrations and police.

The document also carries a purported compliance deadline of December 30, 2026. The Home Department urged citizens not to believe such unverified notifications and advised them to obtain authentic information through its official social media accounts, @HomeDptPunjab.
