Punjab’s Crime Control Department (CCD) has launched a province-wide crackdown against the sale, purchase and use of narcotics and other intoxicating substances.
The action was ordered by Additional Inspector General (AIG) Crime Control Department Punjab Sohail Zafar Chattha, who directed officials to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against drug-related activities.
The CCD has also prepared an emergency action plan to prevent the sale and use of drugs in and around educational institutions.
Under the plan, immediate legal action will be taken against drug dealers and suppliers operating near schools, colleges and other educational institutions. Authorities will also regularly monitor educational institutions to protect students from drug abuse.
The CCD spokesperson said law-enforcement agencies were actively targeting major drug networks and dealers across the province.
The department has urged parents and teachers to closely monitor children’s habits and daily routines and remain alert to signs of drug use.
Citizens have also been asked to report individuals involved in the sale or supply of narcotics without fear. The CCD said public cooperation would be essential to eliminating the drug menace from its roots.
