Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has directed Aitchison College to formulate clear, merit-based policies for selecting college prefects and other student leadership positions.
The governor, who also serves as president of the Aitchison College Board of Governors (BoG), issued the directions in a letter to the college principal.
He called for policies that clearly define eligibility criteria, selection procedures, tenure, codes of conduct, roles and responsibilities for student leadership positions in academics and sports.
He also sought fairness in the appointment of housemasters and the promotion of academic and administrative staff.
The policies will be submitted to the BoG for approval before being uploaded to the college’s website and official social media platforms.
Parents Raise Nepotism Allegations
The development comes amid allegations by some parents regarding the appointment of college prefects, head boys and deputy head boys.
Parents of H2 students attending a Leadership Camp reportedly wrote to Principal Dr. Syed Turab Hussain, alleging that some students had received leadership positions through nepotism and unfair practices.
They also questioned the alleged recommendation of certain students for admission to international universities despite what they described as poor academic results.
The parents further claimed that several leading international universities had raised concerns about the college’s policies. These allegations have not been independently established.
The parents demanded action against any students who were allegedly appointed to leadership positions without meeting merit requirements.
Old Boys Association Rejects Claims
The Aitchison College Old Boys’ Association (ACOBA) strongly rejected the allegations circulating on social media.
The association said it stood firmly behind the values of transparency, merit and fairness.
ACOBA President Usman Haq, General Secretary Omer Qureshi and other executive committee members said the college principal had been appointed through an open process advertised in local and international media.
According to the association, more than 120 applications were received, including applications from overseas candidates. It said the selection process involved a search committee and support from a European global education consulting firm.
The association also defended the process for appointing college prefects and awarding student honors, saying established merit-based procedures were in place.
Responding to allegations regarding university admissions, ACOBA said students should not be publicly targeted or have their names and academic records exposed.
It added that leading international universities consider several factors during admissions, including academic performance, personal essays, standardized test scores, extracurricular achievements and recommendations.
The association said many of these factors were beyond the college’s control.
