Punjab has revised the policy for hiring and extending the contracts of College Teaching Interns (CTIs) in government colleges across the province.
Under the new policy, teachers with satisfactory performance will not have to go through the recruitment process again. Their contracts will instead be extended on the basis of performance evaluations.
College principals have been given responsibility for assessing temporary teaching staff on five criteria, including students’ academic results, conduct, attendance and discipline, along with other performance-related factors.
Officials said those who meet the required standards will be retained, while teachers with poor evaluations will be replaced through fresh recruitment.
Performance records will also be compiled at the central level to maintain a complete record of evaluations.
The policy change comes ahead of the start of new classes in Punjab’s colleges on September 1. Around 8,000 temporary teaching interns are currently serving in colleges across the province.
