The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has made a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) mandatory for telecommunication equipment before it can be imported, deployed, or put into operational use in Pakistan.
The requirement applies to telecom equipment manufactured locally, imported into the country or deployed across telecom networks. It has been introduced under the Telecommunication Equipment Standards Regulations.
According to a PTA press release issued Tuesday, the regulations apply to all PTA licensees, manufacturers and importers of telecommunication equipment. The federal government approved the regulations under Section 28 of the Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-organization) Act, 1996.
Technical Standards for Telecom Equipment
Under the new framework, telecom equipment must comply with prescribed technical standards before it can be used.
These standards cover areas including Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), Radio Frequency (RF), health and safety, as well as other applicable technical specifications.
PTA said a CoC issued by the authority will be required before equipment can be imported, deployed or placed into operational use.
The authority said the regulations were developed after consultations with importers, telecom licensees, manufacturers, vendors and other industry representatives.
PTA said the regulatory framework is intended to ensure global compatibility and interoperability of telecom equipment. It also aims to improve service standards while supporting local manufacturing and economic growth.
