Pakistan won four bronze medals in tug of war and mas wrestling at the sixth World Nomad Games in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
In the 11X tug-of-war event, Tayyab Raza Awan delivered a strong performance, defeating competitors from Russia, Georgia and the United Kingdom. He then beat his Iranian opponent in the third-place match to secure a bronze medal.
Pakistan also claimed bronze in the 88X team tug-of-war event after competing against several strong teams, including traditional rivals India. The Pakistani team eventually defeated Iran to finish third.
The team faced competitors from the UK, Russia, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Brazil and Georgia during the competition.
Pakistan added two more bronze medals in mas wrestling. Muhammad Asim won bronze in the 90kg category after defeating an Iranian wrestler in a closely fought contest.
Iqra Naseeb secured another bronze in the women’s 90kg-plus category, taking Pakistan’s medal tally to four.
Pakistan competed in equestrian sports, mas wrestling, tug of war and archery at the event.
The World Nomad Games celebrate the traditional sports and cultural heritage of Central Asian and nomadic communities. The event was launched in 2014 and features competitions such as traditional wrestling, archery, horse racing and tug of war.
The Pakistan Sports Board supported the Traditional Sports Federation in ensuring the country’s participation in the 2026 Games.
The President, Prime Minister and Pakistan Sports Board congratulated the athletes and organizers on their performance and for bringing recognition to Pakistan at the international event.
