OGDC Reaffirms Commitment to Pakistan’s Energy Security on Independence Day

On Pakistan’s Independence Day, Ahmed Hayat Lak, MD/CEO of Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC), said that the true spirit of independence lies in building a stronger and prosperous Pakistan. He noted that energy security is central to this national journey, adding that the responsibility to secure Pakistan’s energy future rests on institutions that can deliver indigenous solutions. OGDC, he said, remains firmly committed to that mission.

“Independence is a responsibility every generation must carry forward. For Pakistan today, that responsibility includes building an economy that is more resilient and capable of meeting its critical needs through its own resources and capabilities.”

Lak maintained that a secure and reliable energy supply is essential for industries, businesses, communities and economic growth. He highlighted that energy security is not a slogan but a daily pursuit. “Every barrel produced domestically is a barrier against import dependence, and every discovery strengthens the country’s economic sovereignty,” he said. He stressed that OGDC’s teams across the country work with this spirit and understanding.

He highlighted that OGDC has a vital role in securing the country’s energy security. For more than six decades, OGDC has explored Pakistan’s geological potential, developed indigenous resources and delivered oil, gas and LPG to the national energy system. Today, the Company contributes around 49% of Pakistan’s oil production, 28% of gas production and 34% of LPG production.

Lak stressed that energy independence also requires greater reliance on Pakistani expertise, technology and industry. OGDC’s Indigenisation Drive is designed to reduce dependence on imports, conserve foreign exchange and strengthen local manufacturing. Through its Strategic Indigenisation Unit, the Company is working with local vendors to develop critical equipment and materials for oil and gas operations.

Ahmed Hayat Lak said that every discovery, every locally developed technology and every improvement in production is a contribution to Pakistan’s independence. He emphasised that OGDC will continue to explore with purpose, strengthen production and promote indigenisation.

Lak thanked the Government, industry partners and stakeholders for their continued support. He said strong partnerships and a skilled workforce will remain key to accelerating growth, advancing exploration and strengthening Pakistan’s energy security.

He added that the country’s energy future will be shaped by innovation, local capability and responsible development. On Independence Day, he called for a shared commitment to building a Pakistan that is more energy secure, economically resilient and confident in its own resources and talent.
